Default Chances of getting ICT post

What are the chances of someone of 46 getting an ICT post in England? Is
there age discrimination as there undoubtedly is in NI? I am wondering
about possibility of commuting weekly so would need job relatively near an
    airport. Is this realistic?

Well, I am 45 this week and started as an ICT technician at a Welsh school
last October. I was the oldest candidate at interview. Although I had 15
years' IT experience none of this was in education so I don't think your age
would go against you based on my experience.

Pay is notoriously low for school IT staff and I took quite a large cut in
salary but a change in personal circumstances enabled me to do this
relatively painlessly. I couldn't have afforded to maintain a home
elsewhere, weekly lodgings and air fares.

Sorry I should have made it clear that I am looking for a teaching post.

I would have thought it would be possible. Shame you didn't post earlier.
I know of an ICT job going in a school in Stansted, Essex. You can see the
airport (but not hear it) from the school. Easy connection to NI.

They are interviewing on Wednesday. Might be worth a phone call.

Do you hold a PGCE? Do you have good experience within an IT field?

If the answer is yes to both then I can't see you have any prolems.

If you haven't got a PGCE then you'll have to go back to college and get
one; you've probably left it too late to start in September but a call
to the nearest university that does PGCEs in ICT might be worthwhile.

Paul, I have an Hons degree in Education (inclusive of PGCE) also
Distinction at Masters level, and an Adv Cert Ed in special education. So
you think it might be worth my while filling in some application forms?

Very much so. I was 38 when I got my first teaching job.

Go for it, you've nothing to lose except a couple of stamps at worst.

Pedantic ^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^; this isn't school, nor is it
    real life; it's a conversation.

Mind your manners, else I'll ask for you to have a Papal blessing.
