Developing a CD for RM Connect 3 Network
I am developing a set of CD's to be run on the Windows, OSX and RM
Connect 3 Network. Can anyone tell me what a RM Network is? I tried to
use their support site but it is still clear as mud.
1. Can I develop an app to run on Windows and "expect" it to run on RM?
2. The app we'll be creating will involve reading and writing to a
central server location. users will also share the same files from the
server. Will this be possible on RM?
3. We are using Macromedia Director to develop this solution. Does
anyone have any experience with Director over RM Network?
Cheers in advance

Not even an RM owner can tell you this. If he does he will have to kill you!

Now you are about as well informed as the rest of us.

In theory yes, in practise thats something completely different.

Not without a lot of swearing, no.

I often feel that way when I use their support site.

Maybe. As you may have surmised, Connect 3 is meant to be a middleware layer
on top of Windows servers and Win XP desktop clients.

With considerable effort on the part of the person installing it, yes. CC3
(as us veterans sometimes refer to it) likes to lock down various odd
things, so depending on what your app tries to run exactly, the user will
need to re-configure their security settings to allow apps to run from
whatever share your program runs from (and any local temp files that you
use); the technical skills of CC3 users vary widely so you'll find some
people will install your product with no trouble at all and others will give
themselves and your support structure the very devil of a time.

Can't help there, sorry.

<snip the questions>
You might be best ringing round schools in your area, finding one that
uses CC3 and offering them your software gratis (in return for a bit of
testing).
Nothing to lose really.

Thanks guys, this is great info. It seems like the installation would
be a big hurdle.
I might have to find a school to test some files on. I can see this is
going to need heavy testing. The joy of multi platforms and multi
systems within one platform aye. Us developers love it really

The ideal installation is portable.
I suppose that people expect an installation routine, but it may be
more desirable that you describe which files are created, where they're
placed, why and what they're for....

The best software you can do is the type that runs from the server alone
and accessed on a shared drive as this means you do not have to try
and install onto the clients as this is often where the problems arise.
