My computer won't shut down!!! The PC That Woudn't Die!!
Every time I use the Start button option "Turn Off Computer" and then select
"Turn Off", my computer restarts instead of shutting down and turning off.
We've been having thunderstorms frequently and the only way I can kill the PC
is to turn off my power strip when the computer is beginning to reboot. This
can't be a healthy practice, but it is the only recourse I have. Any
suggestions??
Pete

Hi Pete,
Does it do the same thing if you start in Safe Mode? If not, you
probably have a driver that is hanging on shut down and causes the
reboot instead.

I don't think that practice would actually hurt anything, as long as
Windows doesn't actually start loading yet (you have a few seconds
usually). But check under Control Panel -> System and the Advanced tab
under Startup and Recovery Settings button... Have automatically restart
box unchecked.

Hello Pete,
I have the same problem with my computer, it will not shut down when I
select "Turn Off" so I have to turn off the power. Has anybody been able to
help you with this problem? If so, can you post how to fix this problem.
With Microsoft Error Report "Crash analysis " they suspect that an error in
my computer ( RAM ) has caused this problem, also that I should consider
upgrading the BIOS on my computer. I just bought this computer a year and
a half ago and I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition. Need HELP !
Thank you
