Thread: Need some ideas please.

I have my friends computer at my house. It is a dell it has windows 98 se on it and will not finish installing ie6 upgrade.

He tried to change Internet providers by putting in a peoplpc disk and it said he needed ie6 to run people pc.
He had it already and everything was working ok.

By the way this was the 4th disk they sent that would actually work.

Now they get errors when they double click on a shortcut and it closes the window.
I run sfc and it replaced a file that might have been corupt.

They can only get ie5 to open now and they can't type in in any of the boxes to provide usernames and passwords or anything else.

I downloaded the ie6sp1 download and tried to install it but all it does is unpacks it and starts to install then gets 17% and jumps to 100% then says it can't install it now try again later after you close some programs. I tried to install it in safe mode but it did the same thing.

Any Ideas.

I would just reinstall windows98se except they would lose the farming and tax stuff they have in the quicken program.
